The smallest matcha setup that actually works.

The Matcha Starter Kit pairs Strabella's hand-finished green ceramic chawan with a traditional bamboo whisk and 1.9 oz of ceremonial-grade matcha powder. Everything you need to start a daily matcha ritual, nothing you don't.

What's in the matcha starter kit

  • Green Ceramic Matcha Bowl (Chawan) — wide rim for whisking, hand-finished textured artisan glaze
  • Bamboo Whisk (Chasen) with Ceramic Holder — 80-prong traditional whisk on a stand that keeps the prongs dry between uses
  • Bamboo Scoop (Chashaku) — single-serve portion measure carved from a single piece of bamboo
  • Stainless Steel Sifter — breaks up clumps for a smooth, lump-free whisk
  • Ceremonial Matcha Powder 1.9 oz (54 g) — single-origin Japanese, stone-ground, first-harvest spring leaf
  • Linen Tea Mat — keeps the counter clean during the ritual
  • Strabella Box — gift-ready, no extra wrapping needed

Why this matcha starter kit is different

Most starter kits sold online are kitchen-supply-store assemblies with sticker prices and powder that's been sitting on a shelf for two years. Ours is built from the same pieces we use at home: a bowl that holds heat evenly, a whisk that breaks down powder cleanly, and matcha that we stone-grind in small batches.

How to make matcha with this kit

  1. Sift one bamboo scoop (about 1 g) of matcha into the green chawan
  2. Add 2 oz of water at 175°F (just under boiling)
  3. Whisk in a quick "M" pattern for 15 seconds until a layer of foam forms on top
  4. Top with another 4 oz of water for tea, or steamed milk for a matcha latte

Care and longevity

The bamboo whisk lasts six to twelve months of daily use when air-dried on its ceramic holder. The chawan is dishwasher-safe but most people hand-wash it in thirty seconds. The sifter rinses clean in seconds and lives in the same gift box for storage.

Stone-ground in Uji, hand-packed in Newport Beach

The matcha is first-harvest spring leaf from Uji, Japan — shade-grown for three weeks before pick to deepen the chlorophyll and reduce bitterness. We stone-grind small batches and seal each tin within 48 hours of grinding. Each tin holds about 27 servings. Tasting notes: bright, gently sweet, naturally umami, never grassy.

Built to start, made to last

If you've never made matcha at home, this is the smallest setup that actually works. If you've been using a $15 amazon whisk and a foil pouch of powder, this is the upgrade that lasts years.

The green ceramic chawan, hand-finished

Wide rim for easy whisking, textured glaze inside that grips the matcha foam. Heat-stable through the full pour so the tea stays warm. The green glaze pairs naturally with the matcha color — quietly practical, quietly beautiful.

Bamboo chasen whisk and chashaku scoop tools beside ceremonial matcha powder tin for traditional ritual

Bamboo whisk, chashaku scoop, stainless sifter

An 80-prong chasen breaks the matcha down to a clean powder. The chashaku carves a single 1-gram serving. The stainless sifter prevents lumps before they start. All stored together on the included linen tea mat.
