What if they don't drink matcha?
Then give the bowl. A hand-thrown ceramic chawan ($45 in the Tea Set) is a kitchen object that doesn't need matcha to justify it — soup, rice, ice cream all work. The matcha becomes their problem to explore later. Pottery-year done.
